Julianne Hough was born to dancing-couple Mariann & Bruce Hough. Julianne has a brother named Derek Hough, a professional dancer, and three sisters Sharee, Marabeth, Katherine.

Julianne began learning dance at the age of nine. She has had formal training at the Centre Stage Performing Arts Studio in Orem, Utah. Later her parents sent Julianne and her brother to London to learn ballroom dancing from Corky and Shirley Ballas. Julianne, her brother Derek and Mark Ballas {son of coach Sharee Ballas} all joined the Italia Conti Academy where they received training in theatre, gymnastics, song & dance including tap, jazz and ballet.
